This leadership role is directly responsible for safeguarding all personnel from hazardous energy across our portfolio of data center, semiconductor, and advanced manufacturing projects. The Director will lead a dedicated team of Chief Energy Marshals and provide expert oversight for all electrical, mechanical, and high‑energy‑source pre‑energization, energization, and commissioning activities. The ideal candidate is a subject‑matter expert with deep field experience who can drive a culture of zero‑energy‑state execution and absolute compliance.

This opportunity offers flexibility to report to any of our offices in Atlanta, Columbus, Ohio, Phoenix, Dallas, or elsewhere, with associated travel of 25–33%.

Assume ultimate ownership of the Ryan Companies Energy Control Program (ECP), responsible for its continuous improvement, implementation, and enforcement across all Mission Critical projects.

Serve as the company's leading subject‑matter expert on hazardous energy control, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, and NFPA 70E compliance.

Drive the strategic evolution of the ECP to address new technologies, client requirements, and lessons learned, ensuring the program remains best‑in‑class.

Establish and govern the qualification standards, training requirements, and performance management for all ECP‑related roles, including Deputy Energy Marshals, LOTO Managers/Coordinators, and Designated Switching Crews.

Work with key trade partners (Electrical, Mechanical, Low Voltage/Controls, Commissioning teams, Client, etc.) to develop and confirm compliance of their energy control programs to meet Ryan’s program requirements.

Foster a culture of accountability, proactive risk identification, and unwavering adherence to safety protocols within the Energy Control team and among all trade partners.

Technical Oversight And Field Execution

Provide expert oversight and final authority on all high‑risk energy control activities, including medium/high‑voltage switching, complex group LOTO, and initial energization sequences.

Govern the Method of Procedure (MOP) and Action Plan (AP) process, ensuring all procedures are rigorously planned, reviewed, and executed without deviation.

Oversee all energy‑related safety aspects of project commissioning, from pre‑functional checks and startup to integrated systems testing and load banking.

Compliance, Auditing, And Incident Investigation

Own and direct the ECP compliance auditing program, ensuring a robust cadence of daily, weekly, and quarterly audits are performed and documented.

Analyze audit findings to identify systemic trends, program deficiencies, and opportunities for improvement; drive corrective actions to closure.

Lead all root cause analysis investigations for any energy‑related incidents or near‑misses, and institutionalize lessons learned across the organization.

Training And Stakeholder Engagement

Oversee the ECP training program to ensure all site personnel—from Ryan team members to trade partners and vendors—receive the required level of training for their roles.

Act as the senior liaison with client safety representatives, external auditors, and jurisdictional authorities on all matters related to hazardous energy control.

Partner with preconstruction and operations leaders to ensure that ECP principles are integrated at the earliest stages of project planning and subcontractor procurement.
