
Assistant Designer

We are seeking a highly creative and passionate Assistant Designer to contribute to the Rebecca Taylor women’s apparel collections. This role is ideal for a designer with 1-2 years of experience working within the contemporary or premium fashion market, with a strong ability to balance trend-driven creativity with commercial viability.
The Assistant Designer will play a key role in researching trends, developing seasonal concepts, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring designs from concept to final production. A strong understanding of market trends, customer preferences, and business strategy is essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Trend & Market Research
Conduct in-depth market research and competitive analysis to identify key trends in fabric, color, silhouette, and details for the contemporary and premium market. Monitor runway, street style, retail, and social media for emerging trends and translate them into commercially relevant designs. Present trend reports and mood boards to support seasonal concepts and product direction. Design & Development
Collaborate with the Designer and Design Director to develop and execute women’s apparel collections that align with the brand aesthetic and commercial goals. Create and refine sketches, CADs, and technical flats with attention to fit, fabric, and construction. Create tech packs in excel Develop trim concepts in partnership with Designer Participate in fittings, providing design input and adjusting sketches and tech packs accordingly Assist in preparing proto and showroom samples for internal and external meetings Cross-functional Collaboration
Work closely with production to ensure fabric and trim selections are cost-effective and aligned with quality standards. Communicate with overseas vendors and factories, reviewing prototypes and resolving design or construction challenges. Assist in preparing and presenting designs during internal and external design reviews. Organizational Support
Ensure design files and seasonal documentation are organized and up to date. Track and manage sampling and approval timelines to meet key development deadlines. Sending out packages to overseas factories. Qualifications & Skills
Minimum 1-2 years of experience in women’s contemporary or premium apparel design. Strong understanding of fashion trends, apparel construction, fit development, fabric selection, and trims. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office. Highly organized with excellent time management skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Strong communication and presentation skills to collaborate across teams and with external partners.
