
Residential Architectural Designer/Draftsperson (Structural Focus)

David Weekley Homes is seeking a skilled Architectural Designer/Draftsperson to join our Orlando Division. This role supports our architectural design and construction teams by producing high-quality construction documents and ensuring alignment between architectural plans and structural requirements.
We are specifically looking for a candidate with a strong background in structural coordination, either through direct experience with structural engineering or through hands‑on collaboration with engineers in a residential or related environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a drafting professional who is confident working with structural plans, truss packages, and construction details and enjoys being a key contributor in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented setting.
Job Responsibilities
Create and update residential construction drawings (floor plans, elevations, plot plans, and details).
Integrate structural plans and truss layouts into architectural documents.
Coordinate with structural engineers, consultants, trade partners, and internal teams.
Ensure plans meet company standards, building codes, and permitting requirements.
Review drawings for accuracy, constructability, and structural alignment.
Resolve conflicts between architectural and structural elements.
Support permitting and production timelines through timely revisions.
Maintain organized and up‑to‑date plan documentation.
Qualifications
2+ years of drafting or architectural design experience (residential preferred).
Proficient in AutoCAD (Revit a plus).
Strong understanding of structural plans, truss drawings, and basic construction methods.
Experience working with or coordinating with structural engineers.
Familiar with structural terminology and able to manage multiple projects independently and within a team.
Detail‑oriented, organized, and proactive with strong communication skills.
Experience in residential homebuilding, permitting, and familiarity with Florida building codes is a plus.
