Senior HVAC/R Installer Reports to:
Project Manager
The Senior HVAC/R Installer provides professional HVAC/R installation services to customers assigned by the Operations Team and/or their appointed Field Supervisor within the new or existing customer base of Cortez Heating and AC. The Installer leads and performs a wide range of commercial and industrial HVAC/R installation projects. This role requires decisiveness, tact, dependability, and effective communication with customers and team members across diverse backgrounds. The Senior HVAC/R Installer must oversee installations, interpret project specifications, and execute work efficiently to the mutual benefit of the customer and Cortez Heating and AC. Daily duties may vary based on weather, site conditions, time constraints, travel requirements, project complexity, and customer needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as a senior member of the installation team, completing projects safely, promptly, and efficiently.
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, blueprints, and submittal packages.
Mark up drawings and clearly communicate site conditions to internal and external stakeholders.
Perform and supervise installation activities including crane lifts and rigging, fiberglass and sheet metal duct installation, copper brazing and pressing, and equipment setting.
Apply advanced knowledge of mechanical systems, operations, and design to deliver high-quality workmanship.
Lead and mentor field teams on projects ranging from approximately $50,000 to $1,000,000.
Install and coordinate systems including chillers, cooling towers, DX equipment, boilers, electric heaters, duct systems, controls, and piping.
Communicate effectively with Project Management regarding change orders, directives, manpower needs, and material requisitions.
Maintain professional and courteous communication with customers and coworkers.
Work under time constraints, non-standard schedules, varying weather conditions, and evolving customer requirements.
Travel and overnight stays may be required as directed by the Field Supervisor or Operations Team.
Utilize tablets and smartphones daily for job documentation and communication.
Practice safe driving and adhere to company vehicle policies at all times.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of a post-secondary HVAC/R program preferred.
EPA Certification required.
Demonstrated experience in commercial HVAC/R installation and team leadership preferred.
Job Safety, Skills, and Abilities The Senior HVAC/R Installer must be physically able to:
Perform all duties under varying weather conditions within the company's service area.
Lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently.
Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
Climb and balance on ladders and elevated surfaces.
Stand for extended periods.
Additional requirements:
Must not have a fear of heights.
Possess adequate vision (natural or corrected).
Understand when and how to use required safety equipment (e.g., safety glasses, gloves, hard hats).
A strong commitment to maintaining and advancing HVAC/R skills through self-study, company training, manufacturer workshops, and professional development is required. A valid Florida driver’s license and the ability to operate company vehicles within 30 days of employment is mandatory. The employee must be insurable under the Cortez Heating and AC insurance carrier.
