
Mechanical Designer / CAD Drafter

Our client in the Garner, NC area is hiring a Mechanical Designer with hands‑on CAD experience. This is a production‑focused drafting role: you will develop 3D models and detailed drawings, build bills of material for custom equipment, and work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to keep projects moving from design to shop floor.
If you have experience with Autodesk Inventor or AutoCAD, understand how sheet metal and welded assemblies go together, and can manage multiple active projects without dropping the ball, this role is worth a close look.
What You Will Do
Develop and release 3D component and assembly models and associated production drawings in Autodesk Inventor or AutoCAD
Build bills of material for custom and semi‑custom equipment
Review production drawings for dimensional, system, and technical accuracy
Coordinate and execute design changes from engineering reviews and manufacturing markups
Perform design for assembly and design for manufacturing assessments on components and assemblies
Work with engineering and production teams to ensure designs meet standards, schedules, and cost targets
Coordinate with vendors and outside sources as needed to complete design work or support prototype development
Manage multiple active projects while meeting production schedules and customer requirements

Pay: Discussed during the interview process based on experience
Schedule: Monday through Friday
Type: Direct Hire or Contract‑to‑Hire depending on candidate profile
Location: Garner, NC
Start: Immediate upon successful screening
What We Are Looking For Required:
Associate degree in Drafting, Mechanical Design, or equivalent hands‑on experience in a CAD drafting role
Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD (SolidWorks also acceptable)
Minimum 3 years of experience developing mechanical or electro‑mechanical drawings and designs
Familiarity/ exposure tosheet metal, piping, weldingor related fabrication disciplines
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a production environmentwhere projects and schedules vary.
Preferred:
Experience supporting engineering projects involving cost reductions, warranty improvements, or product upgrades
Familiarity with industrial product development in a custommanufacturing environment
