Our global retailer is seeking a

Footwear Materials Designer

to support seasonal product creation within a global sport-focused design organization. This role partners closely with footwear design, color, graphics, development, and materials teams to create innovative, performance-driven materials for athletic footwear. The ideal candidate blends strong materials expertise, trend fluency, and hands‑on manufacturing knowledge to deliver thoughtful, technically sound design solutions from concept through production.

The Basics Duration: Contract role through October 14, 2026 (extension possible, not guaranteed) Hours: 40 hours per week Location: Hybrid (4 days onsite, 1 day remote, typically Fridays) in Beaverton, OR

Top 3 Required Qualifications 5-7 years of experience in a materials design role, with strong preference for footwear experience Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and the ability to create accurate 2D technical drawings and tech packs Solid foundational knowledge of footwear material types, including knits, wovens, synthetics, and molded or injected components

Other Qualifications Degree in Industrial Design or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience Strong trend research and storytelling capabilities, with the ability to translate insights into material narratives Experience collaborating in large, cross‑functional design and product creation teams Familiarity with 3D visualization tools such as Adobe Substance or Vizcom Understanding of footwear manufacturing processes and hands‑on make or prototyping experience Interest in or exposure to performance sport, with soccer experience as a plus Knowledge of sustainable materials and design practices Strong communication skills and the ability to receive and provide constructive feedback

Key Responsibilities Design and develop technically complex footwear materials across seasonal product expressions and collections Partner with color and graphic designers to build cohesive seasonal narratives and material toolboxes Conduct trend research and translate cultural, consumer, and sport insights into material solutions Create detailed 2D material drawings, presentations, and tech packs for development and production Collaborate closely with footwear developers, material developers, and manufacturing partners to ensure design feasibility Curate and refresh existing materials for continuity and evolution within collections Contribute to a collaborative team culture and actively build connections across design disciplines Support projects ranging from competition packs and athlete‑driven stories to innovation and energy initiatives
