As a member of the HandsOn team at United Way of Greater Nashville, the Community Engagement Intern will assist in recruiting volunteers for Hands On’s 200-plus nonprofit partners through community outreach efforts. Job Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Represent Hands On at community events and speak with prospective volunteers by staffing informational tables/booths Research community events and tabling opportunities to expand Hands On’s visibility and promote volunteerism Strategize ways to keep Hands On’s engagement practices current and effective to attract and retain volunteers Organize and maintain all engagement materials and resources Support volunteer orientations by helping with preparation, facilitation, and follow-up communication. Design and implement targeted engagement strategies for specific communities, geographic areas, and demographic groups. Build dynamic lead lists for outreach to community members, groups, influencers, etc. Respond promptly and professionally to volunteer phone calls, voicemails, and emails Maintain high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion in all aspects of the job Qualifications
EDUCATION Preferred: Working towards a college degree or recent graduate with flexible availability QUALIFICATIONS Excellent communication and customer service skills, including presentation/public speaking ability and desire Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups of people Working knowledge and/or relevant training in nonprofits and community engagement Excellent organization and analytical skills and attention to detail Strong Microsoft Suite and dataset skills Able to carry out tasks and work independently as needed Criminal history background check clearance and drug screening Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle. Stipend requires authorization to work in the U.S. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Visual acuity, manual dexterity, hearing, driving, standing, walking, sitting, stooping, bending, lifting, and carrying 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform their essential duties. WORKING CONDITIONS Minimum of 12-15 hours per week. Work involves frequent interaction with other members of the United Way staff, volunteers, representatives of non-profit agencies and the general public Occasional use of personal vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed that is not part of daily commute) The employee is required to stand, walk, climb, and balance. Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers and perform repetitive hand/wrist motions.
