STAS Genetic Counseling Intern

Classification Minimum Requirements Classification Title: STAS - Clerical

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS). Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Employment is part-time, up to 20 hours per week. Candidates must successfully pass pre-employment screening including a background check.

Job Description The UF Health Cancer Institute is the 72nd NCI‑designated cancer center and the only one at a public university in the State of Florida. As a matrix cancer center, it spans all 16 of the University of Florida’s colleges to address the challenges of cancer care through a multidisciplinary effort.

As a Genetic Counseling Intern at UFHCI, you will assist genetic counselors and the clinic supervisor in screening patients for genetic counseling and building relationships between patients and the Hereditary Cancer Program.

Responsibilities

Assist genetic counselors and screen patients for genetic counseling.

Assist with administering the Institute’s Progeny database, including inputting patient information, medical history, and demographics.

Prepare patient records for cancer genetic testing and research testing.

Guide patients through the genetic testing process, including obtaining informed consent, completing paperwork, and facilitating sample collections.

Expected Salary $15.00 hourly.

Qualifications

Enrollment in a relevant degree program with an interest in health awareness, genetics, and/or counseling.

Skills & Abilities

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

Strong organizational skills and ability to work effectively in a professional healthcare environment.

Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment.

Preferred

Experience with Progeny software or other pedigree drawing applications.

Experience with the Epic electronic medical records system.

Qualities

Excellent customer service skills.

Ability to work proactively and independently.
