
Deputy Court Clerk

Position Summary
Kenosha County is seeking a highly motivated, detail‑oriented, and customer-service-focused person to join the Circuit Court staff as a Deputy Court Clerk. The selected candidate will join a team committed to continuous learning and to supporting the fast‑paced court operations of Kenosha County. Circuit Court will provide formal and informal training on technologies, internal court procedures, and mentoring in the requirements of the position.
Duties
Indexing of new case filings
Receipting of cash, credit‑card, and online payments
Docketing of court entries and judgments
Record searches
Proper cash handling and receipting processes
Timely and accurate filing and scanning of documents in criminal, civil, traffic, small claims, family, probate, juvenile, and paternity matters
Excellent phone customer service
Accurate data entry duties
Learning and applying legal terminology
Maintaining electronic court files
Preparing record responses
Ensuring all court documents are prepared accurately and distributed on time
Ensuring proper application of payment information to case filings
Adhering to standard cash‑handling duties
Adhering to Model Court Recordkeeping procedures in maintenance of court files
Providing information to internal and external customers regarding court record information
Acting as receptionist for main customer‑service desk and providing backup to civil deputy court clerks
Serving as liaison to other departments, law enforcement, litigants, service providers, and other involved parties
Preparing responses to record requests
Distributing court calendars
Explaining court procedures, processes, rules, and requirements without providing legal advice
Performing other duties as required or assigned
Qualifications
Minimum two years of work experience in an office environment, preferably in a legal court, financial, or corrections setting
Knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, and documents used in court proceedings
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
Ability to perform basic math functions using technology
Ability to balance a cash drawer
Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another
Ability to handle multiple procedural processes simultaneously
Ability to provide quality customer service and remain professional and courteous at all times
Ability to work independently to follow schedules and meet deadlines
Skill in communicating verbally and in writing, with the ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to maintain confidential information, including personal identifying information and information contained in court records and proceedings
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer, calculator, scanner, telephone, and fax machine
Ability to work respectfully in a diverse and inclusive environment
Physical Demands The position requires light physical demands, such as exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Employees will be expected to stand for long periods, up to 8 hours per shift.
