
Marine Paint Superintendent

Overview We are a ship repair and industrial coatings company specializing in large commercial vessels. We are seeking a Marine Paint Superintendent who can take ownership of coatings operations and keep pace with a high-production, fast-moving environment.
This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who can manage crews, coordinate logistics, and drive projects from start to finish with minimal oversight.
This role is open to both experienced superintendents and strong candidates ready to step into a leadership position.
Key Responsibilities Daily Operations & Crew Management
Lead daily startup activities, including crew attendance and toolbox talks
Monitor workforce productivity and ensure crews stay on schedule and on task
Communicate manning needs and updates to project management
Project Execution & Coordination
Coordinate blasting, painting, and inspection activities
Ensure all work meets project specifications, quality standards, and deadlines
Work closely with QA/QC to ensure compliance with coating requirements
Troubleshoot and resolve field issues in real time
Planning & Preparation
Review project specifications, coating systems, and scope prior to project start
Understand labor budgets and material requirements for each project
Coordinate with Project Managers and office staff on project needs and changes
Coordinate materials and equipment needs with foremen
Schedule vendor deliveries, pickups, and equipment usage
Negotiate pricing and maintain vendor relationships when issues arise
Track inventory and ensure materials are available to avoid delays
Tracking & Reporting
Enter and manage labor hours using QuickBooks Time (or similar systems)
Ensure labor is properly allocated to correct project codes and budgets
Keep Project Managers informed of progress, issues, and changes
Project Closeout Coordinate project wrap-up, including:
Equipment and material returns
Final inventory and unused materials
Invoice approvals and project closeout readiness
Additional Expectations
Maintain a high level of initiative — stay productive during downtime
Continuously improve knowledge of coatings, specifications, and industry practices
Qualifications
2+ years of experience in marine coatings, shipyard painting, or related field
Experience leading crews or coordinating field operations preferred
Strong understanding of coatings processes and willingness to take on increased responsibility
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
Ability to read and interpret project specifications and coating requirements
Strong communication and leadership skills
Work Requirements
Ability to work early mornings, extended hours, and overtime as required
Comfortable working in shipyard environments and active job sites
