SPORTS ANCHOR/MMJ (W/END) - KOLN

The Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering, Jonesboro, AR, United States

Job Summary/Description:

Own the weekend desk:

Lead our 6 & 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday sportscasts with authority, energy, and a conversational style that connects with Big Red fans. This goes beyond the desk and includes behind-the-scenes work like shooting video and interviews, producing sportscasts, and scripting shows.

Drive the Husker narrative:

Report extensively on University of Nebraska-Lincoln athletics from the legendary Volleyball program to Football Saturdays, ensuring our audience gets the inside track.

Champion local sports:

Cover the full spectrum of the Lincoln sports scene, including high school standouts, the Saltdogs, and the emerging pro volleyball scene with LOVB and the Supernovas.

Think digital-first:

Create high-impact content for social media, write sports stories for the web, and our "N Report" streaming podcast, engaging with fans where they live (which is everywhere).

Be a team player:

We can't do the work we do covering sports teams across the state without being a rock-solid team ourselves. You will work in partnership with fellow reporters, anchors, producers, digital leaders, and more each day.

Dominate breaking sports news:

Move with urgency when news breaks, whether it's a major coaching change or a star player's injury, ensuring we are first and most accurate across all platforms.

Enterprise original stories:

Look beyond the box score to find the "why" behind the game, crafting compelling features that people will be talking about at the water cooler on Monday.

Collaborate across the state:

Work closely with our sister Gray stations (WOWT, KSNB, KNOP) to ensure Nebraska fans have the most comprehensive coverage in the Midwest.

Thrive under the lights:

Conduct live on-location reporting during high-pressure game days, maintaining your cool while the crowd goes wild behind you.

Create compelling content:

Partner with Sports Director Kevin Sjuts on unique segments like our Friday Night Football "Sports Overtime," pre-game and pre-season special broadcasts, and sponsored sports segments.

Qualifications/Requirements:

A sports storyteller's soul:

You have a deep passion for sports and the knowledge to find the storylines and human elements in every victory or defeat.

Proven broadcast chops:

Experience anchoring, reporting, and shooting (yes, you're a pro with a camera) in a fast-paced newsroom.

Multi-platform mastery:

You don't just "post to social," you understand how to build an audience on digital platforms and streaming.

Unflappable composure:

You thrive in the chaos of breaking sports news and live sidelines.

Sharp news judgment:

You know what Lincoln cares about, and you deliver it with accuracy and integrity.

A "Self-Starter" engine:

You don't wait for an assignment; you see a story, and you go get it.

Collaborative spirit:

You're a team player who knows that winning coverage is a group effort.

Stamina for the season:

You're ready for the travel, the late nights, and the high‑octane pace of a Nebraska sports calendar.

Additional qualifications include:

College degree related to the field, experience in sports broadcasting, experience using video editing software and rundown technology, experience using broadcast quality cameras, writing in AP & broadcast style, and reporting live on air.
