Job Summary The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) serves as the public, environmental and occupational health laboratory for the State of Wisconsin. This is an outreach specialist position working at the front desk of the WSLH at 2601 Agriculture Drive in Madison, as part of the Environmental Health Division.

This position provides a wide variety of program support for the Environmental Health Division at the WSLH’s Agriculture Drive location in Madison. Primary responsibilities include:

Primary Responsibilities

Providing a broad range of information to customers in person, on the phone, or online regarding water sampling and testing.

Placing and filling sampling kit orders.

Looking up test results for customers.

Communicating information about results based upon the rules and policies mandated by the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WI DNR).

Support environmental public health emergency response with Department of Health and collaborate with county health on the WellTAP program.

Work with the WI DNR Surface Water Grant Program, facilitating lab testing.

Assist in welcoming and guiding guests to the WSLH.

Provide administrative and laboratory information systems (LIMS) support for the department.

Assist with development and maintenance of web content.

The employee in this position is expected to use the tools and principles of quality management in performing daily work, including demonstrating exceptional customer service, providing constructive feedback for continuous improvement, using team skills, presenting ideas, carrying out assignments, and participating in continuous learning through professional development activities.

Work hours are weekdays 7:45 am – 4:30 pm. This position is located off campus at 2601 Agriculture Drive in Madison.

Key Job Responsibilities

Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program – 20%

Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement – 15%

Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program – 15%

Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials – 10%

Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members – 30%

Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day‑to‑day activities for program staff, students, and community volunteers – 10%

Compensation Minimum Salary: $50,000/year

Required Qualifications At least one year of professional outreach experience and customer service experience. Experience working with the public educating and communicating scientific information is preferred.
