Job Description - VISUAL MERCHANDISER (2600016Y)
**Job Summary**
Responsible for creating and constructing merchandise displays in Navy Exchange facilities. May perform clerical functions and drive in performance of duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
Construct, arrange and maintain effective and artistic visual merchandising presentation and displays in appropriate interior and exterior Exchange locations, such as walls, showcases, windows, shelves, counter tops, etc.
Decorate designated areas including showcases, ledges, shelves and fixtures; set up focal displays near entrances of the Exchange to attract customer attention.
Create displays that support seasonal moods and special merchandising events; prepare appropriate signs, show cards, etc.
Work with store management personnel to design and assemble key department displays, highlight and identify principal merchandising efforts, and assemble fixtures.
Set up mannequins, center counter, column and shadow box displays as required.
Enter information into a computer for sign making, determine layout, color selection, type, and review and adjust copy for compatibility with formats.
Use a desktop publishing program to prepare specifications for printed material and signs; review final product against specifications for accuracy and completeness.
Receive requisitions for specific sign printing projects; operate sign machine and print display signs, flyers, price cards, show cards, and related work.
Deliver completed signs to the requesting department and assist with their installation.
Safekeep props, mannequins, tools, and fixtures in storage; maintain areas in a clean and orderly manner.
Maintain records, logs on duplicating and sign‑making services provided; procure materials and supplies needed for sign‑making assignments.
Take publicity photographs and write articles for placement in employees' newsletter on sales and events.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Driver's license required for positions assigned driving responsibilities.
Climbing ladders and moderate lifting of objects occasionally weighing up to 50 lbs is required.
General Experience 2 years of experience demonstrating possession of the necessary mechanical and artistic skills required for visual merchandising, display, and communication. Experience may have been gained in operating sign machines, graphics, illustration, visual display or interior decoration.
Substitution of Experience for Experience
Education successfully completed in specialized schools of interior decoration, design or art may be substituted for experience, year for year, provided an average of 150 class hours a year is shown in interior decoration or design.
One year of education successfully completed in an accredited college or university may be substituted for each year of experience, provided an average of six semester hours a year included courses in interior decoration or design, architecture, commercial art, or related fine arts courses.
