Duties & Responsibilities

Review site plans, plats, and building permits for compliance with drainage, paving and grading, water, and sewer requirements.

Supervise division supervisory staff and work teams; assign work activities, projects, and programs; monitor workflow, schedule, and budget; coach, motivate, assess performance; develop and implement staff training programs, particularly in employee safety; recommend employee recognition, discipline, and termination.

Oversee, participate, and manage the development of the Capital Improvement Program budgets; forecast expenses and additional funds needed for staffing, consultants, equipment, materials, and supplies; administer the approved budget and capital improvements program.

Draft memoranda, letters, and other correspondence; prepare reports and presentations; report and present findings to the Public Services Director, City Manager, City Commission, committees, developers, and community members.

Respond to and meet with property owners, homeowner groups, business districts, and the public; negotiate with regulatory agencies; represent the City as a witness in legal actions.

Manage special programs and coordinate engineering assistance to other departments.

Participate in City Commission meetings and other community meetings as required.

Perform related duties as directed when they are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.

Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible municipal or engineering experience.

Two (2) years of supervisory experience, along with substantial experience in managing public works capital improvement programs, transportation engineering, and development planning.

Must possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Florida, or the ability to obtain one within eight (8) months of hire.

Possession of a valid driver’s license with an overall good driving record; if the license is out of state, must obtain a Florida driver’s license within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Requirements

Eight (8) to ten (10) years of increasingly responsible municipal engineering experience.
