Job Summary As a

Director of Engineering

at

IEF , you will be accountable for providing strategic leadership for the engineering department, driving team development, resource planning, and project execution to deliver exceptional engineering outcomes. Serving as the Engineer in Responsible Charge and/or Engineer of Record, this role sets technical direction, oversees external partnerships, and ensures full compliance with PE/SE licensure requirements.

Accountabilities

Strategically plan and manage departmental staffing and project workloads, allocating resources to meet project objectives and advising senior management on capacity limitations.

Lead and oversee the engineering department, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, staffing strategy, performance evaluations, and professional development initiatives.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring the team delivers world-class engineering solutions, effective communication, and high-quality documentation.

Maintain professional PE/SE licensure in applicable states, ensuring all PDH/CEU requirements are met.

Authorities

Provide advanced technical solutions to meet project performance requirements, while acting as the Engineer in Responsible Charge and/or Engineer of Record.

Facilitate employee development throughout all levels of the structural engineering hierarchy and establish and maintain a training budget.

Organize and lead department meetings to discuss project status, schedules, peer review, and knowledge sharing across projects.

Determine the scope of work to be outsourced and engage with external engineering firms; establish a vendor rotation system for proper selection and schedule peer review checkpoints.

Minimum Qualifications

B.S Degree in Civil Engineering …

PE License is required. SE License is a plus

15+ years of experience

Software: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Bluebeam/Adobe, MathCAD, AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, Mepla, Window Glass Design, Strand, or other FEA software.

Ability to learn in-house proprietary software

Salary Range $160,000-$190,000

Location Open to All Island Locations:

Hartford CT, NYC, Boston MA, or Minneapolis MN

Schedule Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm - Hybrid

ADA Requirements The position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods while using a computer, along with sufficient manual dexterity to operate computers, mobile devices, and related IT equipment. The role may occasionally involve lifting or moving equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, as well as bending, crawling, or climbing—such as accessing under desks or server racks. Candidates must possess the ability to concentrate, troubleshoot, and solve problems in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills. The role also demands effective task prioritization, management of multiple simultaneous support requests, and a capacity to quickly learn and adapt to evolving technologies and tools.
