Position Overview
The Marketing Counsel will report into the Assistant General Counsel-Brand, Marketing and Consumer Law. The role will work collaboratively with marketing and customer‑oriented teams to support initiatives and campaigns that help the business reach its goals while remaining compliant with advertising, marketing, trademark and consumer protection laws and best practices. The role will also help troubleshoot and resolve regulatory and non‑regulatory high‑level customer issues. Based in Norwalk, Connecticut, you will join a legal team that works in a fast‑paced environment on a wide range of transactional and regulatory matters.
While preference will be given to candidates who are willing to be on‑site in the office five days a week, we will consider remote candidates if they are outside the Norwalk commuting area.
Responsibilities
Advise on marketing legal issues associated with consumer‑facing content and campaigns.
Research and draft memos for the legal department and/or the business related to advertising and consumer protection issues and any other issues facing the legal and compliance department.
Conduct legal advertising review in multiple mediums, such as direct mail, email, telephone, SMS, digital ads, SEO content, DRTV and social media.
Update and maintain marketing guidelines and train colleagues on marketing and consumer protection law issues.
Draft guidelines for the business on any new or revised advice on how to structure marketing campaigns and consumer communications.
Serve as a subject matter expert within the company for advertising/marketing law issues and stay up to date on marketing‑related legal issues.
Advise on trademark infringement, clearance and registration.
Stay abreast of changes and developments to state and federal marketing, advertising and consumer‑related laws and best practices (including regulatory enforcement actions and private lawsuits) that may impact the business and promptly and clearly advise on any required changes to the company’s business practices.
Stay abreast of and advise as necessary on state and federal bills introduced that could affect the business.
Guide our customer‑oriented teams in responding to and resolving external and regulatory high‑level customer matters.
Provide strategic advice to improve business processes and practices to ensure a fair outcome for customers, when necessary.
Knowledge of telemarketing laws is a plus, but not required.

Job Requirements
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and a member in good standing of any U.S. state or DC Bar (with ability to become CT Authorized House Counsel).
At least 5 years of law firm and/or in‑house experience advising clients on their marketing practices.
Strong analytical, verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Well‑organized, detail‑oriented with ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while managing multiple concurrent tasks.
Ability to be a strategic partner and trusted advisor, finding practical solutions to business challenges.
Must exercise sound judgment and be able to work efficiently, sometimes under time pressure, in a fast‑paced, demanding environment.
Competency in MS Windows, MS Word, and MS Outlook.
Strong work ethic and willingness to take ownership.
Ability to work independently.
Ad‑hoc responsibilities as assigned.

Salary Range: $125,932.60 – $167,910.14
Annual Bonus Potential: 15%
