Job Summary The Department of Emergency Medicine and ATLAS Lab Research Program seeks motivated applicants for the position of Database Specialist, serving as a Principal Professional. The projects focus on critically ill and injured patients in the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Units, including trauma and medical patients. This position is responsible for database management within multicenter trials, including study planning, execution, site monitoring, site management and other duties as described below.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate project start‑up activities, participate in project meetings relevant to the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of data management system
Perform scientifically rigorous data management and bio‑informatic analyses
Independently design and implement a range of data collection instruments and workflows in REDCap, including the randomization module, longitudinal project setup, and role‑based data access controls.
Perform thorough functional testing before database deployment.
Maintain the database and provide administrative services for the life of the project.
Assist team leads, supervisors and/or management with creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives.
Provide training for study personnel associated with data collection, cleaning, and analysis.
Assist with developing or develop protocol‑specific systems and documents including process flows, training manuals, and manual of procedures.
Assist with identifying issues related to operational efficiency and share results with leadership.
Act as a subject matter expert and authority in the area of REDCap data management system.

Work Location Hybrid
– this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 2‑3 days per week on campus and as needed for in‑person meetings.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
Three (3) years REDCap development experience
A combination of education and related technical or paraprofessional experience may be sub‑stituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year‑by‑year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
Four (4) years of REDCap development experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Expert knowledge of database principles relevant in medical research
Expert ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches
Expert level knowledge of REDCap and willingness to learn new programming languages as necessary
Familiarity with statistical analytical concepts and methods
Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
Outstanding customer service skills
Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology
Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
