We are looking for a Senior Underwriter for our Property Team. This will be a hybrid role based in New York, NY.

The Impact You Will Have As a Senior Underwriter, you will play a pivotal role in driving profitable growth and ensuring the success of our underwriting operations. You will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal business, negotiating terms, and managing key accounts while adhering to underwriting guidelines and governance frameworks. Your expertise will help shape our underwriting strategy, foster strong relationships with brokers and clients, and contribute to the overall success of our organization.

Underwriting Profitable Business

Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet top and bottom‑line targets.

Negotiate participation, pricing, and terms with brokers while proactively managing capacity.

Evaluate and underwrite natural catastrophe accumulation and interpret catastrophe modeling scenarios.

Underwrite international insurance programs for relevant lines of business (LoBs).

Underwriting Approach and Compliance

Ensure underwriting aligns with governance frameworks, including authorities, guidelines, and principles.

Achieve contract certainty on all accounts at inception.

Utilize global pricing tools and ensure reinsurance placement before policy inception.

Policy Documentation and Administration

Ensure accurate policy documentation is issued to brokers or maintained appropriately.

Manage file maintenance for each risk and transaction.

Support policy administration and credit control processes proactively.

Supporting Underwriting Strategy & Leadership

Contribute to the development and execution of regional underwriting strategies.

Train, develop, and coach less experienced staff, including junior underwriters and operations teams.

Manage referrals and re‑underwrite complex business as needed.

Market and Relationship Management

Support the acquisition of new business and retention of existing business.

Collaborate with Market Management on initiatives and negotiations with brokers and clients.

Build and maintain strong relationships with key brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.

Technical Expertise

Proven track record of underwriting profitable business with 10+ years of experience in the relevant LoB.

In-depth understanding of LoB products, portfolio management, and regional/local insurance markets.

Strong risk assessment and management skills, including the ability to evaluate natural hazards and exposures.

Analytical and Strategic Skills

Advanced analytical skills to assess complex data and draw actionable conclusions.

Ability to analyze performance benchmarks and adapt strategies to meet business needs.

Robust understanding of policy administration, including lifecycle, premium bookings, and credit control.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills

Strong influencing skills to persuade and motivate others without executive authority.

Clear and effective communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.

Proven ability to foster relationships with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.

Education and Certification

Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Insurance Management, or Business Administration (preferred).

Understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to the insurance industry.

Additional Skills

Experience working in complex, global matrix organizations.

Proficiency in contract drafting and interpretation.

A basic understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential applications in business is essential.

The annualized base pay range for this role is $99,554 to $150,464. The annual base salary range represents a nationwide market range. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AzC total compensation package. As part of our comprehensive compensation and highly rated benefits programs, employees are also eligible for annual performance-based cash incentive awards.
