
Graphic Designer (Part time)

Under general supervision, the Part‑time Graphic Designer is responsible for creating visually engaging artwork, graphics, and layouts for various digital and print media. The role involves collaborating with team members to conceptualize and execute designs that align with brand guidelines and project objectives. This position also assists in the development and execution of social media content and strategy and serves as a liaison for the graphic design needs of the library as well as other City departments as needed. Reports to the Director of Media and Community Relations.
This is a part time position with anticipated hours of 15–20 per week with a flexible schedule. Telework is available after completion of the six month probationary period.

Responsibilities
Develop creative concepts and design solutions for projects including logos, brochures, advertisements, social media graphics, website layouts, and more.
Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and team members to understand project requirements and objectives.
Manage and uphold City‑wide strategic branding initiatives across all departments.
Use graphic design software and tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) to create high‑quality designs.
Ensure designs are visually appealing, effectively communicate key messages, and adhere to brand guidelines and industry standards.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Stay updated on design trends, techniques, and best practices to continuously improve skills and deliver innovative designs.
Provide constructive feedback and participate in design reviews to maintain quality standards and drive creative excellence.
Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders to address feedback, make revisions, and finalize designs.
Support marketing and promotional efforts by creating compelling visual content for various channels and campaigns.
Maintain organized files and documentation of design assets for easy access and future reference.
Maintain filing system for images and serve as photographer as needed.
Assist in managing all City’s social media platforms and be responsible for strategic direction and original content curation; provide strategic guidance and oversight for various City department social media outlets.
Answer telephone calls and respond to city Web mail.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree with 3 to 5 years of experience in graphic design or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Demonstrated creativity, innovative thinking, and ability to work independently with the ability to manage large projects. Must be proficient in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Microsoft Office. Web design and online marketing experience is preferred. Requires a valid driver’s license.
Knowledge of use of the English language with proper structure, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Knowledge of fundamental design principles such as composition, balance, contrast, alignment, and proximity.
Knowledge of typography principles including font selection, spacing, hierarchy, and readability.
Understanding of color theory, color schemes, and how to use color effectively in design to evoke emotions and convey meaning.
Ability to create visually appealing layouts and compositions for print and digital media.
Proficiency in using graphic design software and tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or alternative design software.
Familiarity with print production processes, including file preparation, resolution, color modes, and printing techniques.
Basic understanding of web design principles, user experience (UX) design, and responsive design concepts.
Ability to generate innovative and visually engaging design concepts and solutions.
Proficiency in using graphic design software and tools to create digital artwork and layouts.
Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality in design work. Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail throughout the design process, from concept development to final execution.
Effective time management skills to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Understanding of content marketing principles, storytelling techniques, and strategies for creating engaging and shareable content.
Familiarity with social media analytics tools and metrics to track performance, analyze trends, and measure effectiveness of social media efforts.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
