ABOUT THE JOB The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Senior Campaign Strategist in the National Political Advocacy Department of the ACLU’s National office in Washington, DC or New York. This is a hybrid role that requires in-office presence two days per week or eight days per month. This is a three-year term-limited position.

The National Political Advocacy Department builds power to achieve an accountable, representative democracy and works on issues such as Reproductive Freedom, Democracy and Voting Rights, Systemic Equality, Immigration, Trans Justice, Criminal Justice and more.

The department conducts analysis, develops policy, crafts world class campaigns, and situates the ACLU to have impact across legislative, administrative, and electoral levers.

This position is part of a collective bargaining unit and is represented by ACLU Staff United (ASU).

WHAT YOU'LL DO Develop and execute national campaign plans for the ACLU’s Abuse of Power portfolio.

YOUR DAY TO DAY

Design and lead complex, multi‑tooled campaigns from planning to execution at the national/federal level to advance civil rights and civil liberties issues

Lead legislative, administrative, and corporate campaigns with minimal guidance

Utilize a variety of sophisticated campaign tactics and tools

Employ constituent targeting, develop advertisements (TV, radio, print), polling, and creative campaign tactics for earned media

Retain and manage consultants

Work closely with Organizing Division on campaign plans

Coordinate day‑to‑day activities of staff in a matrixed structure

Collaborate with senior stakeholders, affiliate staff, and national staff, including policy staff within NPAD

Develop strategic partnerships to expand the ACLU’s influence

Convene and execute on‑ground meetings, planning, and campaign events in priority jurisdictions

Maintain awareness of emerging opportunities and challenges in the issue areas

Exercise independent judgment to solve problems and determine creative solutions

Provide subject‑matter expertise, advice, and support to colleagues in the State Campaigns Division

Adapt priorities in response to a changing external environment

Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned

Provide flexibility in work schedule and location, including travel nationally and working non‑traditional hours

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Significant experience with issue advocacy at federal, state, and/or local levels, including campaign management

Experience designing campaign strategy and executing plans and tactics

Ability to work independently as well as within a team

Excellent research, writing, analytical, and communication skills

Experience building, leading, and working within coalitions

Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment while managing competing priorities and timelines

Comfort with policy and integrating objectives into campaign execution

Willingness to travel

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in issue and electoral campaigns

Experience in legislative and administrative advocacy

Experience in grassroots organizing

Fluency, expertise and experience in multiple ACLU issue areas

COMPENSATION The ACLU offers a salary of $167,568.00 (Level E) based on geographic location. Salaries may be adjusted for regional pay if authorized to work outside the listed location.
