Summary of Responsibilities The Content Writer develops, writes and edits messages for a variety of channels to ensure that AAFP members have the information they need to provide high-quality, comprehensive patient care; thrive in their careers; feel connected to their peers; and find good value in their membership. The Content Writer is flexible, adaptable and able to prioritize when handling multiple projects and requests at once. They are adept at getting information and context from published resources such as the AAFP’s archives, as well as by developing strong working relationships with colleagues and other subject matter experts. The Content Writer creates compelling, clean copy tailored to specific audiences (such as medical students or experienced practice owners) and channels (such as blogs, member news stories, web pages, email or podcasts), and welcomes feedback, edits and critiques.

Specific aspects include:

Translate complex medical and practice topics into communication that’s clear, compelling, engaging, strategically aligned and shares the AAFP perspective.

Utilizes SEO/GEO/UX principles and evolving knowledge of channels to tailor copy to the specific channel and to adapt copy to multiple channels when requested.

Work closely with content strategists and segment marketing managers to develop communication/marketing plans that achieve operational plan objectives.

Build and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with internal colleagues, members and other stakeholders.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English or other related field plus two to four years of related work experience. Excellent writing and editing skills; ability to distill complicated topics into concise, engaging content; and excellent time and project management skills with proven ability to work on multiple projects at once. Demonstrated ability to research information, conduct effective interviews and write well on tight deadlines. Proficiency in Associated Press writing style; and understanding of SEO, GEO and UX writing best practices.
