
Head of Visual Design and Brand Execution

The Head of Visual Design & Brand Execution leads the in‑house visual design team and elevates how NEI tells its story across every touchpoint. This role oversees brand execution, translating organizational strategy, brand vision, and audience insights into cohesive visual systems and compelling nuclear energy storytelling across digital, print, experiential, and event‑based work.
As a member of the Strategic Communications Division’s department‑lead team, this role contributes to division initiatives, executive‑level reports and presentations, cross‑departmental projects, and the development and implementation of operational processes.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Partner with the Senior Director, Marketing Communications, to develop, create, and implement high‑level Marcom initiatives, strategies, and innovative solutions.
Closely collaborate with Marcom department leads: Director, Conferences & Events; Senior Manager, Video Studio; and Senior Manager, Marketing, to create alignment across departments on strategic and operational initiatives.
Periodically connect and partner with the Senior VP, Strategic Communications, the head of External Communications, and the head of Strategic Industry Communications on high‑level initiatives.
Lead creative direction for the Design Studio, ensuring clarity, consistency, and excellence in visual storytelling across all deliverables.
Lead, mentor, and develop the Design Studio team, fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and high‑performing culture that supports growth and advancement.
Translate organizational strategy, brand vision, and audience needs into clear creative frameworks and actionable design briefs.
Accountable for visual standards, brand alignment, and design excellence across all organizational outputs and serves as a strategic partner to cross‑functional teams.
Oversee the development of design concepts and solutions, ensuring high‑quality execution across digital, print, experiential, and event‑based platforms.
Provide executive‑level creative and art‑direction guidance, including visual storytelling, layout, typography, color, brand consistency, and user experience.
Act as a strategic partner and advisor to communications, marketing, events, and project leads, identifying opportunities to strengthen impact, clarity, and cohesion through design.
Define and optimize Design Studio workflows, production schedules, and resource allocation to ensure scalability, quality, and on‑time delivery.
Own and lead creative reviews and critiques, setting direction, resolving tradeoffs, and ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
Ensure cross‑functional project partners and stakeholders remain aligned and engaged through consistent, timely, and transparent communication on project status.
Establish and leverage performance metrics and qualitative insights to evaluate design effectiveness, demonstrate impact, and drive continuous improvement.
Serve as an internal design consultant, advising stakeholders on best practices, feasibility, and innovative approaches.
Champion professional development through coaching, feedback, and intentional growth planning for team members.
Experience:
8+ years of professional experience in design, creative, or brand environments
4+ years of people management experience with a strong track record of leading and developing teams
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proven ability to inspire and manage design teams while balancing strategic, creative, and operational responsibilities.
Strong command of visual design principles and brand systems, with the ability to provide senior‑level creative and art‑direction feedback.
Experience collaborating with cross‑functional partners in communications, marketing, events, or advocacy‑driven environments.
Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate as a trusted advisor.
Education Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a related discipline preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
Location This position is in Washington, DC and operates in a hybrid work environment requiring regular time in the office.
Compensation For employees who live in the Washington, DC metro area, the salary range for this position is: $101,040 – $151,560 annually. Typically, new hires are brought into the organization between the minimum and midpoint of the range, depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted salary for the role.
