Director of Development
will lead on a lean, growing, and highly integrated advancement team pursuing ambitious fundraising and donor engagement goals following the conclusion of the University’s multi-billion-dollar Honor the Future campaign. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to UVA Engineering’s academic and research missions during a period of growth. The Director of Development will be an integral part of External Relations and will collaborate with a diverse range of Advancement colleagues and services. The role requires working with alumni, parents, friends, corporations, foundations, and other key constituents to solicit, secure, and steward six-figure and above major gifts for UVA Engineering. The Director will advance the mission, vision, and goals of UVA and the School of Engineering using agreed-upon metrics and accountability. The role will also participate in prospect strategy development, prospect management, planned giving, reunion giving, University priorities, and other relevant partners as a member of the External Relations team. Ideal Candidate
will demonstrate a strong interest in engineering and applied science and be able to grasp details about the School’s work. The candidate should be able to travel domestically and participate in occasional evening and weekend work. A valid driver’s license is required. Creating and executing fundraising plans that achieve or exceed metrics and goals, utilizing best practices in major giving, including identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major and principal gift donors. Assisting UVA Engineering leadership and the Executive Director of Development in developing and executing program funding priorities, plans, and cases for support. Staffing and supporting School leadership through regular communication, collaboration, and strategy development. Collaborating with academic departments in the School of Engineering, focusing on major giving, stewardship, and strategic development planning with department chairs. Traveling regionally, ideally within the West Coast, to establish long-term partnerships, create outstanding constituent experiences, create volunteer leadership opportunities, and strengthen relationships to fund immediate and long-term goals. Managing special projects in collaboration with the Executive Director to advance development priorities and new initiatives. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree Experience: At least eight years of experience Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree Prior experience in non-profit or higher education fundraising Experience staffing senior leaders and volunteers Experience working with academic leaders, serving as program fundraising lead Initiative and flexibility to shape and respond to evolving fundraising initiatives High integrity and ability to balance big-picture focus with attention to detail Experience using data to evaluate and plan Strong communication skills Experience mentoring junior professionals in a matrixed organization Preference for prior experience on the West Coast Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary position involving extensive use of desktop computers. The role may require traveling to attend meetings and programs. Salary Range
The anticipated hiring range is $110K - $130K, commensurate with education and experience. Position Type & Work Location

UVA External Relations supports a flexible workplace. Team members must have access to a secure home office with high-speed internet and collaborate using various technologies.
