
Information Services Business Operations Director

Job Description
A broad business operations leadership role within Information Services (IS), focused on connecting IS portfolio and project leadership, IS financial management, and IS governance. You’ll work closely with the CIO and IS senior leadership to help align priorities and drive execution across teams.
What You Will Do
Lead or oversee IS project and portfolio management (PMO) functions, ensuring alignment to organizational priorities.
Collaborate with IS leaders and executives to manage and support IS‑related financial activities and prioritize spending through formal budgeting practices; provide transparency and accountability of the cost and business value of IS solutions and services.
Establish and strengthen IS governance processes, decision‑making forums, and ensure that IS‑related processes are overseen effectively and transparently.
Implement and optimize the organization’s capabilities for managing the impact of strategic changes in business processes, IS systems, organizational structure, or culture inherent to a transformation or M&A.
Provide operational and strategic support to IS leadership on emerging priorities.
Partner across teams to ensure alignment without direct ownership of application or clinical portfolios.
What You Will Need
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
10+ years of experience in IT/IS operations, business operations, portfolio/program leadership, financial management, or related areas.
Experience leading or supporting enterprise portfolios, PMO/EPMO functions, or large‑scale initiatives.
Strong experience with financial planning, budgeting, or cost optimization within a complex organization.
Demonstrated experience working within governance frameworks and matrixed environments.
Ability to influence across teams and work effectively with senior leaders and diverse stakeholders.
Strong communication, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
What Makes You a Strong Fit
Experience in EPMO, portfolio leadership, or enterprise program management.
Background in IT or technology financial management (e.g., budgeting, forecasting, TBM, cost optimization).
Exposure to governance, operating models, or strategic planning.
Experience working closely with CIOs, senior executives, or in a chief‑of‑staff / strategic operations capacity.
Ability to operate in ambiguous or evolving environments and bring structure to complex problems.
Work Location
This role is based in Duluth, MN with a hybrid work arrangement. Regular in‑person presence is expected to support collaboration with IS leadership and the CIO office.
Candidates located in Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Iowa, or South Dakota are strongly preferred.
Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to a state where Essentia Health is authorized to employ.
