Summary Seeking an entry-level Right of Way Agent to support land acquisition activities for infrastructure projects. This role focuses on negotiating land rights, performing due diligence, and serving as a liaison between landowners, tenants, and governmental agencies. Ideal for candidates early in their Right of Way or Real Estate career with hands‑on experience acquiring land rights and a strong understanding of title research and settlement documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Negotiate with private landowners and governmental agencies to acquire land rights, including fee simple, easements, leases, temporary workspace agreements, licenses, permits, and ordinances.
Plan and organize workload effectively while adapting to changing priorities and working under minimal supervision.
Perform internal and external due diligence to ensure accuracy and completeness of land rights; identify deficiencies and support curative actions as needed.
Serve as liaison with landowners and tenants regarding ownership, easement rights, damage claims, and access issues.
Follow established organizational policies, procedures, and processes to complete assignments accurately and compliantly.
Represent the organization at public meetings before municipalities, zoning boards, townships, drainage boards, county commissioners, and other governmental bodies.
Required Qualifications
0–2 years of experience in the Right of Way or Real Estate industry.
Minimum 6–8 months of hands‑on experience acquiring land rights.
Knowledge of settlement instruments and contract terms.
Ability to interpret survey drawings, engineering plans, construction drawings, and plan & profile documents.
Proficiency in land title research, including reviewing titles and abstracts.
Michigan Notary required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working directly with landowners and governmental agencies.
Familiarity with public utility or infrastructure‑related land acquisition projects.
Strong communication, negotiation, and documentation skills.
