Scientific Applications of Atmospheric Radio Occultations Job at ORAU in Pasaden

ORAU, Pasadena, CA, United States

Organization National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Reference Code 0033-NPP-NOV26-JPL-PlanetSci Application Deadline 11/1/2026 6:00:59 PM Eastern Time Zone Program Overview The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities for highly‑talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, Headquarters, or affiliated research institute. These fellowships are one to three years, are competitive, and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. Research Opportunity Radio occultation of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals is used to estimate vertical profiles of atmospheric density, pressure, temperature and water vapor. The technique provides high‑resolution limb soundings that can penetrate optically thick clouds, enabling the characterization of thermodynamic conditions within precipitating clouds. The candidate will exploit this capability to characterize precipitation and explore the climate processes that influence it. The research may combine radio occultation data with other observations that provide additional information on cloud physical variables in the presence of precipitation.
