The Drainage Designer IV, District 6/Design/Drainage, will contribute to the design and engineering of the state’s drainage and stormwater management systems for all users of Florida’s state road facilities.
Your Specific Responsibilities Perform technical work in drainage design and permitting for highway projects with little or no supervision. The duties include, but are not limited to:
Design of storm sewers, roadside swales/ditches, retention/detention ponds, exfiltration trenches, and pollution control structures.
Documentation of all supporting drainage calculations and computer applications required for design and permitting.
Coordination with roadway designers to maintain project schedules and resolve drainage and permitting issues.
Complete phase reviews of highway projects designed by consultants regarding drainage design and permitting.
Coordinate with District project managers and consultants to recommend improved drainage design, enforce Department drainage criteria, and establish permit requirements.
Respond to flooding inquiries from the public, Department staff, local government, and others; collect data, develop recommendations, and prepare supporting drainage calculations.
Assist in the preparation of Project Development & Environmental (PD&E) reports, including gathering drainage data, evaluating floodplain impacts, defining drainage areas, determining outfall locations, establishing permit criteria, identifying permit agencies, recommending alternatives, and computing cost estimates.
Assist in preparing Bridge Hydraulics Reports, Bridge Hydraulics Recommendation Sheets, and other hydraulic studies such as Location Hydraulics Reports and Pond Siting Reports.
Recommend process improvements to the District Drainage Engineer, including revisions to databases, resource management, and phase review processing.

Basic environmental permitting

Using a personal computer and software, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs

Establish and maintain working relationships with others Minimum Qualifications A high school diploma or its equivalent and four years of continuous employment experience or three years of higher education with a cumulative of 72 semester hours or 108 quarter hours.
