Peer Recovery Specialist I – Part Time Hourly Rate:

$15.83 + $2.50/hr shift differential for evening, overnight, and weekend shifts.

Work Schedule:

10:00 am - 6:30 pm, Friday and Saturday.

This onsite position in Hampton, VA, allows you to engage directly with individuals on their recovery journeys.

Overview The Hampton‑Newport News Community Services Board offers comprehensive behavioral health services to residents of Hampton and Newport News, Virginia, since 1971.

Responsibilities

Provide peer support and advocate for individuals navigating their recovery journeys.

Address basic physical, financial, social, personal, and recovery needs through monitoring, advocacy, and daily living support as part of a 23‑hour program.

Utilize tools such as Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) and Advance Directive to empower individuals in creating personalized wellness and recovery plans.

Collaborate with treatment team members to employ problem‑solving techniques in individual and group settings.

Share personal experiences with mental health services to offer insights into coping strategies for daily living.

Foster a supportive environment for recovery.

Qualifications To excel as a Peer Recovery Specialist I, candidates must demonstrate:

Personal experience with a mental health and/or substance use condition and a minimum of 12 months of successful recovery.

Completion of the DBHDS 72‑hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training within 6 months of hire.

Valid State Driver's License.

Proficiency in required documentation and communication tools and software.

Strong communication skills, problem‑solving abilities, and a deep understanding of personal wellness and recovery strategies.

Background Check Successful completion of a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening, and employment reference checks is required.
