Job Summary The successful candidate will provide leadership and coordination for the Media Arts Area of Study while delivering high-quality instruction in Digital Media Arts, Graphic Design, Animation and Time‑Based Media, and Illustration and Sequential Art. In a student‑centered environment, the faculty member will actively engage in student recruitment, academic advising, foster inclusive and innovative learning experiences, and contribute continually to the excellence and vitality of the Art Program and the Visual & Performing Arts Department.
Essential Functions
Supervise and instruct students in Media Arts‑related courses for students planning to transfer to a university or directly enter the workforce, as well as community members seeking self‑enrichment opportunities.
Develop written syllabi, course outlines, and course materials.
Actively recruit and retain students for the Art Program.
Maintain office hours to assist and potentially advise students.
Minimum Qualifications
Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
Three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught and a Bachelor's degree or higher OR
A Master's degree or higher in the teaching field OR
A Master's degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field OR
A Master's degree or higher in any field with a combination of 24 upper‑division and/or graduate credits in the teaching field
Desired Qualifications
Three (3) or more years of documented professional experience with four (4) or more media arts‑related software programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat Pro, After Effects, Lightroom, Animate, Premiere Pro, or Blender.
Three (3) or more years of experience teaching Media Arts‑related courses at the collegiate level, specifically courses related to graphic design and animation.
Professional experience in a wide range of media disciplines such as graphic design, web design, animation, 3D printing, or illustration.
Demonstrated experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
Knowledge of the philosophy and principles of a Learning College.
One year of full‑time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two (2) years.
Special Working Conditions
MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visa.
Some evening and/or weekend teaching assignments and/or events may be required.
May have to lift, move, set up, and transport media arts-related equipment weighing over 40 lbs.
