Your role in helping us shape the future:
We are looking for a motivated journalism student who’s interested in learning about consumer advice editing. You will learn about our unique and highly respected brand of advice journalism; the tools and strategies that power a major media brand on the cutting edge of the information age; how to edit content for clarity, style and flow; SEO best practices; and how to produce and illustrate articles in our content management system.
The role will be primarily to assist with developing story ideas, updating existing stories, outreach to experts, editing articles, creating video and graphics for social media, and fact‑checking. For the right intern, bylined writing opportunities are also possible.
Responsibilities:
Help research and write advice‑oriented content and articles.
Perform fact checking.
Identify and catalog articles that need to be updated.
Update, edit and optimize older stories.
Create videos and other multimedia products for social media.
Actively and enthusiastically participate in trainings and team activities.
Assist with research or administrative tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Eligible candidates must be one of the following:
Part‑time or full‑time students who have completed 48+ credit hours (rising juniors/seniors and graduate students) and are enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university.
Part‑time or full‑time students enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college or university.
All candidates must be able to work a hybrid in‑office work schedule from our Washington, DC or New York offices.
Fall internship for school credit only.
Able to handle multiple short‑term and longer‑term assignments while meeting tight deadlines.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism and maturity in the workplace.
Effective communicator in both written and spoken English.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite and Google Docs.
3.0 GPA or above preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of AP style.
SEO savvy and some familiarity with Google Analytics, Semrush or other SEO tools.
Interest and/or familiarity in writing consumer advice content.
Video and graphics capability.
Social media savvy.
