Organization & Details Organization: Mentor A Promise (MAP) Location: Hybrid / Remote Type: Volunteer (Senior Leadership) Reports To: Executive Director (CEO) Works Closely With: Chief of Policy, Advocacy & Public Engagement PromiseStudios PromisePress PromisePod PromiseBrands PromiseBridge Program Leadership About PromisePublic | Public Affairs, Advocacy & Engagement PromisePublic is MAP’s public‑facing division responsible for communications, advocacy, public engagement, and institutional voice. The division ensures that MAP communicates with clarity, alignment, and accountability—across all platforms, audiences, and stakeholders. Role Overview We are seeking a Chief of Communications to lead and oversee all communications strategy, messaging, and public‑facing narrative across the organization. This role is responsible for ensuring that MAP speaks with one clear, consistent, and aligned voice—across content, campaigns, partnerships, and public engagement. The Chief of Communications serves as the central leader responsible for messaging strategy, communication systems, and cross‑platform alignment. Key Responsibilities Organizational Messaging & Voice Define and maintain MAP’s overall communication strategy and messaging framework Ensure consistency in voice, tone, and narrative across all divisions and platforms Align communications with mission, values, and strategic priorities Strategic Communications Leadership Oversee public‑facing communications, campaigns, and messaging initiatives Ensure alignment between storytelling, advocacy, partnerships, and program communications Guide development of communication priorities and messaging direction Cross‑Division Alignment Coordinate across PromisePublic, PromiseStudios, PromisePress, and PromisePod Ensure messaging consistency across blog, podcast, campaigns, and external communications Reduce fragmentation and strengthen unified communication systems Public Engagement & External Communications Oversee messaging for partnerships, advocacy efforts, and public engagement initiatives Support development of press materials, statements, and external communications Ensure communications align with policy and systems change goals Systems & Process Development Build and maintain communication systems, workflows, and standards Establish processes for content alignment, approvals, and messaging consistency Ensure scalable communication infrastructure across the organization Leadership & Collaboration Serve as a senior leader within PromisePublic and across MAP Advise executive leadership on communication strategy and positioning Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via Google Workspace Qualifications Required Strong experience in communications, public affairs, or strategic messaging Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills Experience leading communication strategy across multiple platforms Strong organizational and leadership abilities Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity‑centered values Preferred Experience in nonprofit communications, advocacy, or public engagement Experience managing multi‑channel communications (media, content, campaigns) Familiarity with brand voice development and messaging frameworks Experience working with leadership teams and external stakeholders Commitment Volunteer senior‑leadership role Approximately 5–10 hours per week Minimum 6‑month commitment preferred Hybrid / remote with optional NYC‑based collaboration What You’ll Gain Senior leadership experience shaping organizational voice and strategy Direct collaboration with executive leadership and cross‑functional teams Opportunity to define and elevate MAP’s public presence Professional references and letters of recommendation A meaningful role influencing how the organization is seen, understood, and trusted How To Apply Interested candidates must apply directly through Idealist and submit: Resume (required) Cover letter (required) describing relevant experience in communications, public affairs, or messaging strategy and interest in MAP’s mission At this time, volunteer opportunities are limited to individuals based in the United States due to legal, safeguarding, data‑privacy, and programmatic requirements.
