Media And Communications Officer

FLSA Classification: Exempt Direct Supervisor: Director of Schools

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to plan, coordinate, and direct the Internal and External Communications through a systemwide development, implementing and managing effective communication strategies. This position will work closely with the Directors Office and all district and school administrators to promote awareness about Robertson County Schools.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develop and maintain a comprehensive communications and public relations plan for the school district. Maintain proactive media relations with all local media, prepare new releases and district messages as needed. Coordinate crisis communications and serve as a member of the district's emergency operations team. Serve as the district Public Information Officer during crisis events under the direction of the Director of Schools. Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, community stakeholders and media personnel. Manage district branding with consistency across all departments, schools and digital platforms. Support Board communications including coverage for all meetings. Oversee the development and maintenance of the district's website, all social media platforms and any digital communication channels. Manage the use of and create content including newsletters, to highlight the district achievements and accomplishments. Provide training and guidance on communication protocols and media relations Assist with creating video content to use in district wide training and as an information source for the community. Manage communication budgets and resources effectively. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or closely related field. Preferred experience and/or training that includes media relations, use of technology including social media, development of written communications and newsletters, management of websites or web design; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Strong written, verbal and visual communication skills. Ability to travel to schools and community events with occasional flexible scheduling required for meetings and events on evenings and weekends.
