Job Summary

The Director of Engineering and Design is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Engineering department across multiple engineering disciplines focused on water and wastewater applications. This includes design, estimating, and bid proposal work. This role works a hybrid schedule Tue-Thursday in the office, and remotely on M/F. Responsibilities

Support EHS efforts to achieve overall business safety objectives. Manage the engineering and design teams to effectively design and produce project drawings and documentation for the delivery of water and wastewater plants. Prioritize workload based on company goals and priorities. Day-to-day management and assignments working with Project Managers and other stakeholders. Support business development activities by consulting with customers and customers’ technical advisors, as well as preparing preliminary cost estimates and designs. Serve as a technical resource for business development activities across Texas and other parts of the country and internationally depending on the company’s needs. Ensure that all work products are of the highest quality and are on time. Manage QA/QC within the engineering department to minimize project rework. Work with the Project Management and Construction Management teams to improve and standardize designs to facilitate more effective and streamlined plant construction. Maintain a healthy work culture of performance, transparency, respect, and trust. Facilitate discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution. Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and sharing information. Provide all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example. Assess engineering and design tools to ensure the most effective tools are utilized to deliver project materials. Cross-organizational support including marketing, business development, and finance departments to serve as a technical lead. Required Skills

Expert level proficiency in computer programs for an engineering office. Expert level working knowledge of municipal water and wastewater engineering processes. Strong understanding of other engineering disciplines including mechanical, process, electrical, and I&C; deep understanding of plant operations, standard details, scope delineation, and cost estimation. Mastery of documentation for integration engineering, including Mass Balance, PFDs, P&IDs, Facility Arrangements, Equipment Arrangements, Network Architecture Diagrams, Valve Lists, Instrument Lists, etc. Drawing/document control and revision/change management; using the drawing/document list and approval status as a measure of progress. Required Experience

Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field required. 5-10 years experience in an engineering firm or a company specifically working on wastewater projects or municipal projects. Professional Engineering (PE) License in the state of Texas or ability to acquire within 6 months as a job requirement. Five years of experience managing engineers in a project or departmental environment. Experience or Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) is beneficial but not required.
