Overview
Junior Achievement of Maine is a 501(c)3 nonprofit serving students, K-12, in schools across the state. It bridges in-classroom learning to real-world opportunity by partnering with community volunteers to deliver learning experiences focused on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and work readiness skills. It aims to accelerate student’s economic mobility by building skill sets and mindsets to envision choice-filled futures.

We’re adding a full-time, hands-on Director of Development to our dynamic team based in downtown Portland, Maine to support our mission of inspiring and preparing young people for life and career success.
Responsibilities
In partnership with the President & CEO and VP & COO, lead our comprehensive fundraising plan and ensure all annual fundraising goals are met and/or exceeded.
Using a collaborative approach, identify, cultivate and secure new partners and funders each year.
Supervise and mentor one direct report.
Lead and implement plans that build and sustain gifts from corporations, foundations, and individuals in partnership with President & CEO.
Cultivate relationships with corporate, individual, foundation, and state government partners.
Oversee the annual grant and proposal process within timelines.
Oversee the creation, planning, and execution of JA’s Special Events, including securing and retaining sponsorships for the Maine Business Hall of Fame, Golf Classics, JA Titan Challenge, and volunteer & donor recognition events.
Be responsible for creation of JA’s portfolio of major gift prospects.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of direct fundraising and development experience (or equivalent combined education and experience)
Demonstrated success personally managing multiple fundraising functions simultaneously.
Comfortable working independently and managing priorities in a lean organizational structure
Experience in small or mid-sized nonprofits preferred
Passion for improving the lives of young people through education and opportunity
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally and statewide
