Job Description – Tax Preparer
Rust & Company CPAs is seeking an energetic, ambitious, smart, driven, and experienced accountant to join our team of professionals. We are a well-established (est.1993) and successful CPA firm located in Swanzey, NH.
Tax Preparer Position Our firm is a 12‑member public accounting firm focused on tax preparation and advisory services. We provide a proactive approach, guiding clients throughout the year and acting as their trusted advisor.
Primary Function
Prepare federal and state income tax returns for individuals
Prepare federal and state business tax returns (partnerships, corporations, S corporations)
Work with clients to prepare tax projects and complete regular tax planning
Use UltraTax CS and Thomson Reuters products to prepare returns
Accounting (Secondary Function)
Provide outsourced cloud-based accounting for small‑business clients
Run A/P, payroll and reporting for clients
Assist clients with QuickBooks Online as primary business reporting technology
Develop strong, productive, professional, and trusted advisor relationships with assigned clients
Partner with clients by understanding their businesses and providing ongoing advice, insights and support
Interpersonal/Client Development Skills
Exhibit time management and organization skills
Develop an entrepreneurial approach to client service and good working relationships with client personnel
Build new and existing client relationships and demonstrate basic knowledge of client businesses
Maintain contacts with peers and develop a network of business contacts
Develop effective communication methods with clients and responsible parties
Understand and consistently demonstrate firm ethics
Experience
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
Two years of accounting work experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
QuickBooks experience a plus but not required
Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook at minimum)
Ability to multitask and work independently with minimal supervision
Paperless environment experience strongly preferred
Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills
Team player with a positive, “can‑do” approach
