Interior Designer
Job Description
This role offers an experienced Interior Designer the opportunity to lead the development and execution of interior design concepts for institutional and commercial projects, with a strong focus on healthcare and higher education environments. You will collaborate closely with architects and multi-disciplinary teams to integrate interior design seamlessly into overall project goals, while balancing functional, aesthetic, and sustainability standards. This position is ideal for a degreed designer with at least 5 years of experience who brings strong technical skills, creativity, and a collaborative mindset, and who is interested in long-term leadership opportunities within a growing design practice.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute interior design concepts for healthcare, higher education, and other institutional and commercial projects.
Collaborate with architects and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure interior design aligns with overall project goals and building design.
Prepare detailed interior drawings, construction documents, and specifications using Revit and, preferably, AutoCAD.
Select and coordinate materials, finishes, and furnishings to meet functional, aesthetic, and sustainability standards.
Incorporate sustainability frameworks such as LEED and WELL into design solutions where applicable.
Participate in schematic design, design development, and documentation phases for interior architecture and interior design scopes.
Apply strong technical knowledge to ensure constructability, code compliance, and performance of interior design solutions.
Support project management activities related to interior design, including coordination with consultants and internal project teams.
Contribute to a collaborative, creative studio culture by sharing ideas, participating in design reviews, and mentoring junior team members as appropriate.
Position yourself for increasing leadership responsibility, with the potential to grow into an Associate Principal role and participate in financial ownership opportunities within the firm.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a closely related field (degreed Interior Designer).
At least 5 years of professional interior design experience.
Proven experience in healthcare and/or higher education projects.
Strong technical proficiency in Revit (required) for interior design documentation.
Experience preparing construction documents, drawings, and specifications for interior projects.
Ability to develop interior design concepts and carry them through to detailed documentation.
Collaborative working style and ability to coordinate effectively with architects and multi-disciplinary teams.
Demonstrated ability to deliver functional, aesthetically compelling, and sustainable interior environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in higher education or healthcare design is strongly preferred and considered essential to success in this role.
Proficiency in AutoCAD (preferred) for interior design and documentation.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and other design and visualization tools.
Experience in interior architecture and schematic design.
Interest in or familiarity with sustainability frameworks such as LEED and WELL.
A passion for designing environments for healthcare or higher education clients.
Motivation to grow into leadership roles, including potential advancement to Associate Principal with equity participation.
Work Environment You will work in a creative, team-centered studio that emphasizes collaboration across all aspects of the design process, engaging with a diverse peer group and experienced mentors. The environment supports work on a wide variety of project types, including significant healthcare, academic, cultural, corporate, and government projects, with a particular focus on healthcare and higher education. The role follows a hybrid schedule with two days working remotely and three days in the office each week. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Baltimore, MD.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $33.65 – $48.08/hr.
