Entry Writer Import Specialist - Portland, OR III
Starting Range – non-exempt hourly position: $53,762 - $67,202 per year.
Role Overview The Customs Entry Writer Import Specialist III – Customs is responsible for managing complex international trade operations, ensuring compliance with customs regulations, and optimizing import/export processes. The role involves coordinating documentation, liaising with regulatory authorities, and providing guidance on customs compliance strategies.
Responsibilities
Oversee all aspects of import operations, including customs clearance, KPIs, and compliance.
Prepare, review, and submit accurate documentation (Bills of Lading, Commercial Invoices, Certificates of Origin, ISF filings).
Ensure adherence to international trade laws, customs regulations, and company policies.
Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and government agencies to resolve clearance issues.
Monitor tariff classifications, duty rates, and apply free trade agreements to minimize costs.
Manage compliance programs such as CTPAT and maintain audit‑ready records.
Analyze and report customs‑related data for internal audits and regulatory reviews.
Provide guidance and training to junior staff on customs procedures and compliance requirements.
Stay updated on changes in global trade regulations and recommend process improvements.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED with related field experience.
5–7+ years of experience in import/export operations with a focus on customs compliance.
Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, HTS codes, and global trade compliance.
CargoWise One experience highly preferred.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
Customs documentation and regulatory compliance expertise.
Experience with IEEPA, Sec 301, FTAs, Exclusion qualifiers, and Sec 232 provisional tariff application including partials for metals.
Tariff classification and duty management.
Stakeholder coordination and negotiation.
Data analysis and reporting.
Problem‑solving under time‑sensitive conditions.
Preferred Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field.
Certified Customs Specialist (CCS).
CTPAT compliance experience.
