TITLE Individual Supports Professional (IS)
POSITION OVERVIEW This position reports directly to the Individual Supports Supervisor. It is a full‑time, forty‑hour per week, and/or part‑time position. The Individual Supports Professional provides support services to people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, helping with daily activities, skills acquisition, and development. They create a safe, positive, encouraging atmosphere and work closely with recipients to enhance decision‑making and engagement in activities that strengthen physical and mental health. They often teach recipients how to complete tasks independently, promoting an independent and satisfying lifestyle.
The Individual Support Professional will provide services in or out of the home for an individual who resides in an unlicensed and/or licensed setting.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES PERFORMED
Assist in driving, personal care, ISP books, ISP goals and objectives, implementing behavior plans, monitoring individuals, assisting with lunch preparation, community integration, pre‑vocational skills training, completing tasks, needs and health status, and performing tasks to support the condition and tend to their needs.
Perform basic housekeeping duties that service recipients cannot complete, such as cleaning, meal preparation, transporting to appointments or social outings, and keeping them safe from potential health hazards.
Follow a daily schedule of activities to assist service recipients, remember the slogan “safety first,” and be the best safety manager possible.
If they have driving privileges, transport service recipients from their residential setting to day programs according to their schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One year of experience in a vocationally oriented day program or special education program, and/or a residential program working with service recipients with autism.
Communication Skills: Respectfully communicate well both verbally and in writing with individuals, staff, family members, and community partners.
Judgment/Initiative: Use good judgment in dealing with individuals’ issues/emergencies, maintain a good working relationship with supervisors.
REQUIREMENTS
Employment contingent on clearing state‑required criminal background check, central registry, child abuse registry, and drug testing.
Current, valid New Jersey Driver’s License required; other state license acceptable up to three months. Driver’s abstract cannot exceed 5 points.
Successful completion of all DDD’s System Mandatory Training Bundles at time of hire or within 90 days.
Must be 20 years of age or older.
Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
