PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The Specialist, Real Estate supports the region’s landholdings by managing complex real estate activities, including negotiating fixed fee and revenue agreements, and performing shared administrative functions for the team.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
Facilitates the third‑party use of non‑surplus, underutilized properties, engaging with multiple internal stakeholders to verify surplus status and ensure proposed use does not negatively impact railroad operations
Negotiates real estate agreements to ensure highest returns while minimizing liability to the company, including agreements governing access and temporary use
Assists real property aspects of CPKC projects by providing subject‑matter expertise on acquisitions, development, and disposition of real property interests
Research historical agreements, property ownership, and title status for parcels utilizing a variety of historical and modern resources
Administrative tasks related to real estate agreements, including maintaining document management processes and managing inflow of inquiries for the region
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
High School Graduation or General Equivalency
Minimum 3 years of experience in Railroad Real Estate or Corporate Real Estate
Post‑secondary education in business, finance, or property management considered an asset
Experience in complex Railroad transactions considered a strong asset
Ability to communicate and negotiate agreement terms with internal and external stakeholders
Strong ability to read, interpret, and comprehend land‑related legal documents
