Overview
Job Title: Inside Technical Sales Representative
Reports To: Director of Sales
Position Summary: The Inside Technical Sales Representative supports the Director of Sales by managing the technical and administrative aspects of the quoting and estimating process. This role is responsible for analyzing customer RFQs, preparing estimates, coordinating with internal departments to gather required technical and cost information, and issuing quotations that meet both customer requirements and company profitability goals.
The Inside Technical Sales Representative works closely with Engineering, Programming, Manufacturing, Benching, Purchasing, and Sales to ensure all proposals are technically accurate, commercially sound, and aligned with M.C. Molds’ design standards and manufacturing capabilities.
This position plays a critical role in supporting customer communication, ensuring RFQs are processed efficiently, and maintaining clear coordination between customers and internal departments throughout the quoting and order preparation process.
Responsibilities Quoting & Estimating
Analyze blueprints, technical drawings, customer documentation, and RFQs to prepare cost estimates for blow molds, complex parts, tooling, and assemblies.
Structure job details and technical requirements to support creation of internal work orders.
Research prior job history and costing databases to support accurate estimating for new projects.
Work with Engineering, Programming, Manufacturing, and Benching departments to gather technical input and estimated labor hours for non-matrix mold quote requests.
Coordinate with Purchasing to identify vendors for specialized services and obtain pricing and lead times for outside processes required to support bid preparation.
Prepare quotations that accurately reflect labor, materials, outside services, and technical requirements.
Log and track incoming RFQs and ensure all required information is obtained to begin the quoting process.
Coordinate internally to ensure quotations are prepared and issued within established response timelines.
Ensure quotations are structured clearly with defined scope, assumptions, and delivery expectations.
RFQ Analysis & Customer Support
Work directly with customers to gather required information for RFQs and quotation preparation.
Analyze customer RFQs to verify mold fitment and compatibility with M.C. Molds’ design standards and manufacturing capabilities.
Coordinate with Engineering to confirm machine fitment and feasibility for complex mold designs.
Assist customers with technical questions related to mold capabilities, manufacturing considerations, and project requirements.
Maintain clear and professional communication with customers throughout the quoting process.
Repair & Refurbishment Quotations
Coordinate with the Benching Supervisor and Production Manager to evaluate molds sent in for repair or refurbishment.
Gather required technical information and estimated labor hours for repair evaluations.
Prepare quotations for repair and refurbishment work based on internal evaluations.
Track repair evaluation progress and ensure quotations are issued promptly.
Sales Coordination & Job Tracking
Support the Director of Sales in tracking open RFQs and ensuring quotations are issued within customer-required timelines.
Create weekly reports to update customers and internal departments on the status of active jobs and projects.
Coordinate communication between Sales, Engineering, Scheduling, and Production to ensure clear understanding of job requirements.
Job Cost Review & Continuous Improvement
Perform closed job reviews and cost analysis comparing estimated costs versus actual job performance.
Identify opportunities to improve estimating accuracy and quoting processes.
Maintain and update internal estimating databases and job history records to improve future estimates.
Job Requirements
Experience in sales, estimating, account management, project management, or another customer-facing role in a manufacturing, technical, or industrial environment.
Familiarity with manufacturing environments, tooling, machining, mold making, plastics processing, or related industries is beneficial but not required.
Basic understanding of quoting, pricing, and cost considerations, or the ability to learn and apply these concepts with training.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and/or 3D design files.
Ability to work collaboratively with Engineering, Scheduling, Production, Programming, and Management teams to support project execution and customer needs.
Strong communication, organizational, and follow-through skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Willingness and ability to travel as required to support customer relationships and business development.
Must maintain a valid Driver’s License and Passport or be able to obtain one.
Willingness to work extended hours when necessary to meet customer commitments and business demands.
Prior experience in blow molding, plastics, tooling, machining, or a related manufacturing industry is preferred but not required. Candidates with relevant technical or manufacturing experience and the ability to learn the industry will be considered.
