Job Overview
Responsible for analyzing and evaluating residential loan applications originated by U.S. Bank branch offices to maximize credit quality and minimize risk and potential loss. Develops and maintains a loan underwriting portfolio consistent with the bank's credit guidelines and investor or insurer standards, approving and/or denying loans within specified limits.
Responsibilities • Gathers, analyzes, and interprets all types of credit information for current and prospective retail banking customers. • Approves and denies loans within certain limits and determines credit structure and loan eligibility decisions. • Maintains compliance with industry and business unit standards and institutional policies.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
Five or more years of mortgage underwriting experience.
Preferred Skills / Experience
Advanced understanding of factors affecting real estate values and credit analysis.
Strong mathematical skills.
Proficient computer navigation skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience with FHA, VA, HUD, Portfolio/Non‑QM, and Jumbo loans.
FHA Direct Endorsement Underwriting designation.
VA Staff Appraisal Reviewer (SAR) designation.
Schedule requires working in Pacific Standard Time zone.
