Associate Compliance Surplus Lines Specialist

Job Summary As a Compliance Surplus Lines Specialist, you are a member of the team responsible for the execution of the filing and payment of surplus lines taxes on behalf of Synapse and Synapse’s placing brokers. This position requires working knowledge of surplus lines tax regulation for assigned state(s). This regulatory insurance tax reporting position is deadline driven in reporting taxes to multiple states.

Essential Functions/ Primary Responsibilities

Coordinating Surplus Lines filings, reports, and taxes in assigned states.

Performs and coordinates all aspects of surplus lines tax filings (including, but not limited to, affidavits, stamping fees, and state filings).

Provide guidance and support for internal clients on all matters related to compliance. (i.e., Home State Determination, Diligent Effort Requirements, State Tax Rates, Stamping Fee, and Exempt Commercial Purchaser).

Respond to Carrier requests for individual licensing verification.

Respond to Carrier/Broker E&O Certificate Requests.

Centralis & Database Management

Preparing and uploading state specific forms.

Document Review and Management Administrative Support

Provide administrative support to the Compliance Surplus Lines Manager.

Additional projects assigned based on operational needs.

Educational Requirement

Bachelor’s Degree Preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Relevant work experience may substitute for degree requirement.

Previous insurance experience and knowledge of P&C insurance or compliance concepts preferred.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

High-pressured, fast-paced environment with significant telephone and personal disruption. Large number of multiple steps in complex system performed with accuracy and speed is essential to the successful completion of tasks.
