Mission It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.

Job Purpose Under limited supervision of the Regional Administrator, directs case management coordination services in a county office with fewer than 100,000 residents to include assessment, planning, monitoring, advocacy and direct intervention of clients under the supervision of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Responsibilities

Coordinate, plan, and direct the oversight of intake, probation, parole, and prevention and intervention services for the county office.

Ensure compliance with agency policies and procedures.

Ensure compliance with victim services.

Promote volunteer service work in the county office.

Complete reports, file reviews, audits and provide information as needed.

Ensure county office file reviews are conducted on schedule and accurate.

Maintain county office and equipment.

Utilize corrective action as needed.

Ensure subordinate staff provide a comprehensive plan of supervision for the assigned youth to include diversion, intake, probation, or parole.

Assist subordinate staff in developing a comprehensive needs‑based case management plan.

Advocate on behalf of youth and families to ensure appropriate, timely and consistent services.

Ensure subordinate staff conducts assessments for services and living arrangements for youth reintegration to the community.

Assist subordinate staff where needed.

Promote restorative justice practices to address the repair of harm/compensation to victims and communities.

Initiate and sustain objectives to reasonably reduce DJJ commitments, utilize intervention and diversion programs, graduated responses and incorporate job readiness for youth in daily activities.

Promote professionalism and accountability in staff.

Monitor county office operations for quality assurance.

Perform other related job duties as requested or assigned.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree and related experience.

Additional Requirements:

Knowledge of federal/state laws and regulations pertaining to juvenile offenders and the juvenile justice system.

Knowledge of the objective, techniques and practices of juvenile justice intake/probation functions.

Knowledge of fact‑gathering methods and interviewing techniques.

Ability to develop, enhance and work with community collaborative initiatives.

Ability to organize and maintain a case load.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to facilitate and broker services for juveniles, their family members and victims.

Ability to utilize a wide range of graduated responses.

Must be able to perform job duties in a variety of settings to include typical office space, client homes, various facilities such as group homes and “lock and key” facilities, and courtrooms.

Some overnight travel for training as needed.

Must be physically able to travel as required.

Perform duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Training applicable to these duties will be provided.

Preferred Agency Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences, criminal justice, or related field.

Four (4) years’ experience in strength‑based case management, work with community‑based programs, intake case management, probation, intensive case management, criminal justice or equivalent related experience.

Two (2) years of supervisory experience is preferred.
