The Department of Visual Arts at Coastal Carolina University, accredited by NASAD, is seeking a full‑time Assistant Professor of Graphic Design with a focus on AI and technology integration. The position commences August 2026. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses from first year through senior thesis in the BA (Graphic Design) and BFA (Visual Communication Design) programs. Courses include typography, design history, identity systems, environmental, and motion design, with emphasis on the role of technology such as AI in design and the broader theoretical, conceptual, and historical context. The lecturer is expected to develop a wide range of course materials, maintain a modern curriculum, and contribute to a diverse and inclusive learning environment. Salary is nationally competitive. Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate courses and guide students through project‑based and thesis work. Prepare syllabi, course materials, and curriculum content for each semester. Communicate assignments, grade, and provide feedback using the university’s Moodle system. Track student progress, report absences, and follow university grading procedures. Conduct research, generate scholarly contributions, and train students in research techniques and creative production. Hold regular office hours and participate in faculty meetings, committees, and university events. Perform additional departmental duties as assigned. Qualifications
Applicants must hold an MFA or terminal degree in graphic design or visual communication by the date of hire and have undergraduate teaching experience in design. Preference is given to candidates with a record of research and professional activity in the field, who demonstrate a commitment to serving underrepresented and underserved communities and fostering academic success for all students.
