Overview
We are looking for a
Document Accessibility / WCAG 2.1 AA Consultant
to support the client’s accessibility practice, with an immediate focus on helping end clients meet
WCAG 2.1 AA
requirements for accessible documents, forms, and related digital content. This role will begin on a part-time basis for a few hours per week and is expected to support document accessibility remediation, accessible content creation standards, compatibility testing with screen readers and assistive technologies, and internal training. The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on experience with
PDF, Word, and form accessibility , along with broader knowledge of
WCAG 2.1 AA
so they can scale into wider accessibility initiatives as the scope grows. Experience supporting regulated environments, public-sector organizations, or Medicaid-related programs is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
Perform remediation and validation of accessible documents (PDFs, Word documents, and digital forms)
Apply and interpret
WCAG 2.1 AA
requirements to documents and digital content
Test compatibility with screen readers and assistive technologies
Advise internal and external teams on accessible authoring best practices
Contribute to creating or improving document accessibility standards, processes, and QA checklists
Train internal teams on accessibility requirements, remediation methods, and governance processes
Review content for structure, reading order, headings, lists, tables, alt text, color contrast, form labels, and keyboard accessibility
Familiarize and work with common remediation and testing tools for document accessibility
Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience in regulated, government, healthcare, or public-sector environments is a plus
Support consulting engagements or client-facing accessibility initiatives is a plus
Grow into broader accessibility advisory work beyond documents as project scope expands
Qualifications
Strong hands-on experience remediating and validating accessible PDFs, Word documents, and digital forms
Deep understanding of WCAG 2.1 AA and how it applies to documents and digital content
Experience testing compatibility with screen readers and assistive technologies
Ability to advise internal and external teams on accessible authoring best practices
Experience creating or improving document accessibility standards, processes, and QA checklists
Ability to train internal teams on accessibility requirements, remediation methods, and governance processes
Experience reviewing content for structure, reading order, headings, lists, tables, alt text, color contrast, form labels, and keyboard accessibility
Familiarity with common remediation and testing tools used for document accessibility
Strong communication skills to convey findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders
