The Opportunity We are seeking a high-level, "Machinist-Level" Mold Maker to join our precision tooling team in Stratford. Unlike standard plastic injection roles, this position specializes in
Zinc Injection (Die Casting) . You will be working with H13 tool steel to build, maintain, and repair high‑pressure molds ranging from small 4‑cavity precision units to large‑scale 24‑cavity configurations.
This is a hybrid role requiring a professional who is equally comfortable with high‑end CNC programming and the manual "bench‑level" artistry of stoning, fitting, and assembly.
Technical Core Responsibilities
Precision Assembly: Execute full assembly of "Class A" molds, including high‑precision fitting of cavities, threading inserts, and managing complex slide cores.
Bench Work & Maintenance: Prep shot blocks, install ejector pins, plumb water lines, and perform essential stoning/polishing to ensure mold integrity.
Advanced Troubleshooting: Diagnose critical production issues such as flash, galling, or cooling inefficiencies; perform engineering changes as required.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work directly with the Engineering department to interpret blueprints, resolve design flaws, and optimize mold performance.
Required Equipment & Software Stack
EDM Operations: Proficiency in
Esprit
and
Sinker EDM
for intricate cavity detailing.
CNC & 5-Axis: Hands‑on experience operating
Mazak
equipment (3‑axis and 5‑axis capabilities).
Manual/Conversational: Skilled in the use of 2‑axis and 3‑axis
Prototrak Mills
and
Prototrak Lathes .
Programming & Design: Mastery of
G-Code, Mastercam, and SolidWorks
to interpret engineering files and blueprints.
Candidate Profile
Technical Literacy: Absolute precision in reading and interpreting complex technical drawings and blueprints.
Material Expertise: Strong understanding of the thermal and pressure demands associated with
H13 Tool Steel
and molten zinc environments.
Adaptability: A professional mindset that values both high‑tech programming and the hands‑on manual fitting required for high‑tolerance tooling.
