Senior Mechanical Designer

Our client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to join their team in Anoka, MN. This is a direct hire opportunity focused on R&D and new product development for industrial products. This position will play a key role in taking concepts from early‑stage design through prototyping and into production.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands‑on, fast‑paced development environment and has a strong background in sheet metal design and SolidWorks. Candidates MUST have sheet metal design experience!
Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design efforts for new product development (R&D) projects
Design and develop components and assemblies using SolidWorks
Create detailed drawings, models, and documentation for production
Apply strong sheet metal design principles, including bend allowances, tolerances, and manufacturability
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and cross‑functional teams to bring products to market
Build and test prototypes; iterate designs based on performance and feedback
Ensure designs meet functional, cost, and manufacturability requirements
Support design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
5+ years of mechanical design experience (senior‑level candidates only)
Proven experience in R&D / new product development (not just sustaining engineering)
MUST HAVE strong sheet metal design experience
Background in industrial product design
Proficiency in SolidWorks (modeling, assemblies, and drawings)
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM)
Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with prototyping and hands‑on testing
Familiarity with additional fabrication processes (machining, welding, etc.)
Experience working in a fast‑paced or cross‑functional environment
