Director of Claims Coverage Counsel-Professional and Executive Liability
Job Summary
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced
Director of Claims Coverage Counsel
specializing in
professional liability and executive products (D&O, EPL, fiduciary, etc.)
claims
to join their team. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, with a focus on proactive claim management, legal expertise, and delivering exceptional results.
Responsibilities
Provide legal advice and counsel on coverage and bad faith claim matters
Manage coverage and bad faith litigation, including oversight of outside counsel and review of pleadings, filings, and discovery responses
Resolve coverage litigation efficiently, fairly, and cost‑effectively
Advise the Claim Department on coverage issues, including review of coverage letters and related documentation
Research, analyze, and monitor coverage and bad faith case law and legislation across multiple U.S. jurisdictions
Deliver training and ongoing legal guidance to the Claim Department on coverage issues, litigation management, file documentation, excess vs. primary disputes, catastrophe claims, and claim handling practices
Provide legal support on policy language interpretation and product development initiatives
Advise on additional legal issues and disputes arising from coverage determinations and claim handling
Qualifications/Requirements
J.D. required with 8+ years of legal experience at a law firm and/or insurance company
Experience advising on coverage and defending coverage and bad faith litigation for claims‑made professional and executive liability products (e.g., D&O, EPL, fiduciary)
Experience handling coverage and bad faith matters across multiple U.S. jurisdictions preferred
Experience analyzing coverage issues across multiple product lines
Insurance policy drafting experience preferred
Strong analytical skills with the ability to navigate complex claim processes and identify practical solutions
Strategic mindset focused on improving claim outcomes
Ability to develop innovative solutions within a Claim Counsel function
Clear, effective communicator with the ability to present findings and recommendations to management
Compensation Package
Base Salary: $135,000 - $200,000 per year
Annual bonus plans
