Internship - Water Resources Program
Community Development Department - Water Resources
10-19 hours/week; 8-12 weeks
Hiring Rate: $17.50 per hour
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime)

Internship Summary We are seeking a driven, enthusiastic, detail-oriented Water Resources Program Intern. This internship includes opportunities to learn about historical, current and future water policy, water resource management and City water conservation initiatives. In this role, you will support departmental efforts to effectively manage historical and active digital records related to operational and long-term water resources management efforts. You will also have opportunities to engage the public at key outreach events and gain hands-on, real-world experience related to water conservation programming.
Responsibilities
Helping organize electronic policies and division records to prepare for migrating into a Sharepoint environment.
Assisting in reviewing water obligations related to new requests for City water service.
Using writing and research skills to help draft informational content for Prescott's long term water management plan.
Projects will also include assisting with water conservation rebate application reviews, assisting customers with EyeOnWater smart meter leak detection signups and staffing public outreach events.
Engage in water resources demand management planning conversations.
Assist with water obligation cataloging for long term planning data management.
Learning about and assisting with water conservation rebate processing and record keeping.
Assisting customers with EyeOnWater leak detection questions.
Staff and provide customer support at public events such as Prescott Farmers Market, City workshops and with HOAs.
Assist with additional water conservation outreach projects as needed.
Support daily administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications Education and/or Experience: Current enrollment or recent graduation from an undergraduate or graduate program in natural sciences, sustainability, conservation, environmental education or business field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Skill in using computers; Excel and writing basic reports in Word; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent analytical skills; a passion for water resource related work; outstanding multitasking abilities.
Ability to accurately document daily work tasks; ability to communicate; ability to solve problems.
Ability to recognize occupational hazards of work; ability to follow safety principles, regulations, and safe work practices.
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with City employees; ability to exercise sound judgment.
Ability to collect and organize facts and data; ability to record field data manually and by using computer programs.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to work on tasks without constant supervision.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting, with occasional outdoor public event work.
Clearly sees, with correction if necessary.
Clearly, concisely, and effectively communicates in person, via email, and by telephone.
The following physical abilities are required to perform the work asked of this position:
Grasping; handling; hearing; manual dexterity; mental acuity; reaching; repetitive motion; speaking; visual acuity (3 aspects).
