Due to continued growth, our Power Delivery group is seeking a Substation Designer – Physical Designer in one of the following office locations: Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Orlando, FL; Tampa, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Overland Park, KS; Kennesaw, GA; Remote.
Responsibilities Imagine a day where you're designing the backbone of the power grid—drafting substation layouts and details that keep energy flowing safely. You collaborate with engineers across disciplines, solve real‑world challenges, and see your designs come to life in the field. Every detail you contribute will help power entire communities—safely, reliably, and sustainably.
Substation Design & Drafting:
Develop electric substation drawings, including General Arrangements, Elevations, Conduit Plans/Details, Grounding Plans/Details, Foundation Plans, Lightning Protection plans, and control building layouts. Work closely with the Civil Engineering department to develop substation foundation and structure detail drawings.
Engineering Analysis & Calculations:
Perform substation design calculations—lightning protection, voltage drop, and conduit fill.
Collaboration & Quality Assurance:
Work closely with peers to ensure accurate and on‑time delivery of electrical design that meets client and industry standards, specifications, and good engineering practices.
Field Support:
Provide on‑site technical support for select ENERCON clients during construction and commissioning as required.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in Substation designing, with a primary focus on executing physical design projects.
Familiarity with relay protection schemes.
Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD.
Willingness to enter energized electric substations with proper training and PPE.
Must be self‑driven in time management to meet deadlines and provide accurate deliverables, with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
Must be proficient with typical office software including Microsoft Windows and Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Willingness to travel for client site visits and project meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in electric utility industry, preferably in a fast‑paced consulting environment.
Experience with 500kV substation design.
Pay Range USD $65,600.00 – USD $90,000.00 per year.
When salary range is listed it reflects typical compensation for this role based on level and location. Actual pay depends on experience, skills, and education.
